LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls man who has five prior felony convictions was arraigned in Niagara County Court Monday on charges of striking a near neighbor in the head with a golf club.
Dennis C. Jeffrey, also known as Dennis Townsend, 50, of Ashland Avenue, pleaded not guilty to second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Deputy District Attorney Doreen M. Hoffmann said Jeffrey allegedly struck a man in the temple with a golf club July 19 after the victim reportedly objected to Jeffrey placing a downed tree limb on city property along the street. The victim still has vision problems, Hoffmann said.
Jeffrey spent most of the past two decades in prison after being sentenced in 1995 to 10 to 20 years behind bars for two drug sales and a stolen property charge stemming from a burglary, Hoffmann said. He is currently being held without bail as a parole violator.
