LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls man who pleaded guilty to trying to steal copper pipe from a vacant house last year was placed on interim probation for one year Wednesday, pending a final sentencing decision from Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III.

Steven A. Willard Jr., 21, of 20th Street, had pleaded guilty April 9 to attempted second-degree burglary for the June 20 theft attempt on Haeberle Avenue in the Falls.

He and Cameron A. Paul, 20, of Haeberle Avenue, who also pleaded guilty, were charged with cutting down pipes inside the house. Paul was admitted in December to the judicial diversion program of court-supervised drug treatment.
