NIAGARA FALLS – Capt. William C. Glasgow, a World War II hero from Niagara Falls, will be honored at a ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday in Oakwood Cemetery, 763 Portage Road, where he is buried.

An Oakwood Cemetery Notable Person Marker will be unveiled, and a POW Medal presentation will be held.

Materials relating to Glasgow’s life and to his military service will be on display.

Glasgow flew more than 80 missions in Europe and North Africa during World War II.

On his last mission, his plane was shot down, and he was wounded.

The Germans captured Glasgow, but he escaped and then was recaptured.

He was sent to a hospital, from which he also escaped.

It took him 12 days to rejoin his unit.

He was sent back to the U.S., but Glasgow was killed May 27, 1945, in the crash of an experimental plane at an air show in Dayton, Ohio.
