LOCKPORT – Cordarise M. Houston, the Niagara Falls man charged with attempted murder in a May 26 shooting in the victim’s Cudaback Avenue home, was ordered to give a DNA sample to prosecutors Thursday by Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III.

Deputy District Attorney Doreen M. Hoffmann said some unidentified DNA was found at the crime scene, and she wanted to compare it with Houston’s. The defendant gave a sample after court.

Houston, 24, of 70th Street, is charged with shooting John Petty seven times. Petty called 911 and identified Houston as the shooter. Houston and his wife Marguerite, 24, who is charged with hindering prosecution, were arrested two days later in a Niagara Falls Boulevard motel.

They are to be tried together March 24, but Murphy scheduled arguments Feb. 14 on a defense request for separate trials.
