A panel that controls a pot of Niagara River Greenway funding has approved almost $9 million for previously announced projects in Niagara Falls State Park.
The improvements announced last spring for Terrapin Point and the Cave of the Winds on Goat Island will be paid for, as previously disclosed, with advanced payments from a settlement agreement with the New York Power Authority for the relicensing of the Niagara Power Project.
Under the deal, the state parks office was to receive annual payments of $3 million for 50 years. In exchange for receiving a $25 million payment, the agency will receive $1.5 million in annual payments for the next 20 years.
The planned Greenway would connect Buffalo and Youngstown with a string of parks, trails and greenspaces.
