A would-be robber who pointed a gun at a clerk at a Wheatfield gas station and demanded money fled empty-handed after the clerk was unable to open the cash register, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday.

Capt. Gregory Schuey said the sheriff’s office received a 911 call at 7:37 p.m. Saturday reporting the robbery attempt at the Kwik Fill station at 3945 Niagara Falls Blvd.

The suspect was described as 5 foot, 5 inches tall with a stock build. He was wearing a red hoodie, a dark winter hat, a dark bandana covering his face and black trousers, along with dark gloves and boots.
