BATAVIA – A new provost/executive vice president for academic affairs is among the new officials who have joined the Genesee Community College staff in preparation for the academic year beginning Aug. 26. Kathleen Schiefen comes to GCC from Monroe Community College. With a doctorate in higher-education leadership and 20 years in college-level work, she will oversee all academic programs.
Kristen Clark Schuth is the new director of athletics. She returns to GCC, where she was the softball coach after serving Finger Lakes Community College as an assistant athletic director.
Michelle Slawiak joined the faculty as director of the campaign for the GCC Foundation. She has served as a giving director in Buffalo, where she last worked at the Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens.
Reid Smalley has begun his new position as executive director of the Business Employees Skills Training Center. He has worked in development positions in Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
Stephen Wise, from the Churchville-Chili School District and a graduate of the FBI National Academy, has become director of public safety.
The new dean of distributed learning is Craig Lamb, who will oversee the college’s online learning program, a post he held at Saratoga Springs’ Empire State College.
