YORKSHIRE – A man found prowling through backyards while wearing a Guy Fawkes “V for Vendetta” mask on July 4 in the Town of Yorkshire, Cattaraugus County, faces charges for criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to State Police.
State Police in Machias received several calls at about 10:30 p.m. July 4 that a man wearing the distinctive mask was walking through backyards. When troopers arrived there, they found a man removing his trousers in what might have been an attempt to change his appearance. Troopers found the mask and the painkiller oxycodone, which was not prescribed to him, in the backpack carried by Luke R. Mattson, 23, of Arcade.
Mattson was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and a violation of public health law. Police said, “There was no evidence he committed any other crimes during his masked travels.” Mattson was issued appearance tickets for Town of Yorkshire Court.
