TOWN OF LOCKPORT – A town resident said extensive damage to her car resulted from a flat tire that caused her to end up on the opposite side of South Transit Road late Friday, facing in the wrong direction, according to police.

A witness, however, said that Sarah E. Chaffin, 28, crossed over the center line on South Transit and struck his oncoming car near Tonawanda Creek Road, before leaving the scene. When sheriff’s deputies found Chaffin’s vehicle on the wrong side of South Transit a short distance away, she reportedly denied having been in any type of accident, instead claiming that her flat tire had resulted in the damage to the driver’s side of her car.

Deputies said Chaffin registered a 0.12 reading on a Breathalyzer test, and the South Transit Road resident was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving left of center and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
