LOCKPORT – Two teenagers were held for possible indictment by a Niagara County grand jury Wednesday in connection with the Dec. 3 assaults on the Lockport High School athletic director and a school monitor.
City Judge William J. Watson sent the case onward after brief appearances by Jesse F. James, 18, of Caledonia Street, and DeAndre T. Reed, 16, of Washington Street.
They are charged with two counts each of felony assault and other charges related to the punching of Athletic Director Patrick M. Burke and monitor George F. Apolito Jr. as the victims attempted to eject James and Reed from a basketball scrimmage for what a police report termed “vulgar” conduct.
Reed is being represented by the Public Defender’s Office, while Lockport attorney David C. Douglas has been assigned to represent James. Both defendants remain in the Niagara County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
