TOWN OF LOCKPORT – A shoplifter wiggled out of two shirts and a jacket Friday afternoon in escaping the grip of a store security guard following a theft attempt at the Bon Ton store on South Transit Road.

Sheriff’s deputies said the man was believed to have taken several pieces of jewelry before exiting the store around 4:30 p.m. He was confronted in the parking lot by a store employee and gave back a silver necklace valued at $70, but then shoved the man and fled on foot. He was caught again and another scuffle ensued, during which the suspect wiggled out of his clothing and fled again, shirtless.

Deputies said the suspect suffered a wound to his face during the melee.
