LOCKPORT – A second defendant pleaded guilty Thursday in the Dec. 3 assault on the Lockport High School athletic director and a monitor, which occurred as they were trying to eject two unruly teenagers from a basketball scrimmage in the school gym.
DeAndre T. Reed, 16, of Washington Street, Lockport, pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree assault. It’s the same charge to which Jesse F. James, 18, of Caledonia Street, Lockport, admitted Wednesday. Both are to be sentenced March 28 by Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas. They face up to four years in prison.
Reed, like James, moved to Lockport from Rochester six months ago. Farkas said Reed was living in Lockport until he moved away temporarily to live with a cousin.
“He went to Rochester because [his mother] couldn’t handle him. He’s a handful,” Farkas said in refusing to reduce the $10,000 bail that has kept Reed in the County Jail since the incident. Wednesday, she cut James’ bail to $5,000.
