LOCKPORT – The Niagara Art Trail is sponsoring free percussion workshops for children from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday and July 26 at the weekly Lockport Community Market on Canal Street.

The scene will be the first floor of 57 Canal St., just west of the gazebo. Participants should enter on the side of the building facing the Erie Canal.

The classes are targeted at children ages 6 to 12. There will be hands-on time featuring a variety of traditional percussion instruments as well as everyday items which can be used to “make some noise,” according to Jay Krull, who will preside over the classes with his son, Xavier Krull. The kids will experience teamwork while learning to improvise on their selected “instruments,” while also making instruments to take home.

The two classes can be attended independently of each other, since the presentations and types of instruments to be made will vary, Krull said, but all children must be accompanied by an adult.
