LOCKPORT – Mayor Anne E. McCaffrey announced Tuesday that she intends to auction off the mayor’s city-owned car and not replace it.
Traditionally, the city supplies the mayor with a car and the official license plate LP1. McCaffrey said a resolution to be sponsored at the next Common Council meeting by Alderwoman Kathyrn J. “Kitty” Fogle, R-3rd Ward, will place the current vehicle, a 2009 Dodge Charger, up for bids. The proceeds will be applied toward to the city’s budget deficit, McCaffrey said.
“Considering the serious fiscal conditions facing our city, the issuance of a city-owned vehicle to the mayor is clearly an unnecessary expense to city taxpayers. As the chief executive of our city, it is important that I lead by example, and that’s why I am putting an end to the use of LP1,” McCaffrey said.
