LOCKPORT – A woman who stole more than $10,000 while working at Lockport’s McCarty Insurance Agency last year pleaded guilty Tuesday in Niagara County Court.
Christine Gardner, 42, of West Avenue, who called herself “a licensed customer service insurance agent,” admitted to fourth-degree grand larceny in the theft of $10,153.60 between August and September 2012. County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III scheduled sentencing on Dec. 3.
Assistant District Attorney John P. Granchelli said Gardner took cash and checks from customers, but the money “never actually made it into the operating account. They were credited to Ms. Gardner’s account, and premiums from other customers were used to make up the difference.”
