LOCKPORT – The city’s second community garden is to be installed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Ontario and Hawley streets. The project follows up on the first garden, installed last year at Washburn and South streets.

Both are managed by Imagine Community Gardens, a faith-based not-for-profit organization. Volunteers from partner churches Faith Tabernacle and Refuge Temple will help construct 25 raised vegetable beds, a shed and five compost bins at the new site. Neighborhood residents will be able to sign up to plant in one of the beds.

Meanwhile, at the original Washburn Street site, two compost bins are to be built today, while the gardens are cleaned and prepared for this growing season.
