LOCKPORT – A new K-9 Memorial, honoring K-9 partners killed in the line of duty, will be dedicated next week at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Niagara County Sheriff Department, 5526 Niagara St. Ext.
Law enforcement officers and their K-9s from throughout the area are expected to attend. The dedication is also open to the public.
The new memorial was funded through donations from area businesses and individuals.
There will be one name on the new memorial – Rocky, who died Dec. 4, 2011 in Niagara Falls.
On that night in December, Rocky and his handler Deputy Craig Beiter were searching for a suspect on the roof of a six story building. Rocky jumped over a three foot retaining wall, falling about 60 feet to his death.
“It is important not only to remember our fallen officers, but we need to honor our K-9 partners that served faithfully and some made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Sheriff James R. Voutour.
