LOCKPORT – Lockport City School District taxes this year will be collected at M&T Bank branches in Lockport, not at the City Treasurer’s Office in City Hall.
Deborah A. Coder, assistant superintendent for finance, said last week that payments for the bills to be issued in September can be mailed to a special “lockbox” at M&T Bank, or in person at the M&T branches or drive-throughs on Walnut Street or South Transit Road. A receipt can be obtained by checking a box on the bill.
“This should be a seamless process,” Coder said, adding that escrow companies have been informed of the change.
The Board of Education made the change in January, scrubbing a four-year collection agreement with the city approved in 2013. For the upcoming school year, the school district was to pay the city $39,000 for the service.
