LEWISTON – The New York Power Authority turns on the month of October with free family Saturdays to promote energy awareness at the Niagara Power Project’s Power Vista, 5777 Lewiston Road. The programs include:

• 1 p.m. Saturday: Learn how to prepare your home for winter as representatives from the State Energy Research and Development Agency share energy-saving strategies.

Find out more about alternative energy options and the benefits of a free or low-cost energy assessment.

• 1 p.m. Oct. 12: Hear from a Niagara Falls resident who converted to solar power and experience the Power Vista’s new solar exhibit featuring clean energy technology.

• 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oct. 19: Catch two movies at each session that teach youngsters all about electricity. “Timon and Pumbaa” and “Louie the Lightning Bug” will enlighten children of all ages.

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 26: The annual “Spooktacular” costume party makes learning fun with interactive displays and exhibits. Costume judging is at 1:30 p.m.

There is an awesome view from the observation deck 350 feet above the Niagara River Gorge.
