LEWISTON – Niagara University senior Joseph Hotchkiss is receiving his second award based on his ongoing efforts to rebuild and transform Hydraulic Park at Niagara and Third streets in Niagara Falls.
Hotchkiss, a business management major from Binghamton, will receive the Main Street Business and Professional Association’s Michael A. Brundidge Community Service Award. He previously received the Member Award from the Niagara Beautification Commission on Sept. 12.
“I work at a restaurant on Third Street, and my biggest complaint from tourists is that the city looks abandoned. I thought that fixing up this park would help get the community excited to change this complaint,” Hotchkiss said. After spring cleaning in April, Hotchkiss obtained a $1,100 donation from the property owner to buy flowers, mulch and a trash can. He eventually plans to put up a mural, repair the brickwork, restore electricity, and host live entertainment in the amphitheater.
