The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 25th Anniversary Gelatin Splash raised a record $127,000 for the Western and Central New York Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

More than 1,000 people attended the fundraiser, which took place June 12 at Banchetti by Rizzo’s, in Amherst, to help support the fight against leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers. The Gelatin Splash featured a “big plunge,” in which 102 participants jumped into 1,000 gallons of cherry gelatin to collect donations.

The WNY chapter will spend the event’s proceeds to fund programs of blood cancer research, local patient aid, public and professional education, advocacy and community service.

Gary Burns, the president and chief executive officer of EmpireEMCO, Inc., was the night’s top fundraiser. He raised $14,271 in donations and will be awarded a five-night Caribbean Cruise for Two with a $500 airline voucher or a $1,500 travel voucher.
