Obama should approve Keystone construction

I am a Democrat, but I cannot believe that President Obama is downplaying the economic benefits of the proposed Keystone XL pipeline. The pipeline would go from Canada (where the oil is) to Texas. If approved, it would create tens of thousands of jobs. With these jobs created over the years, more people would get off the welfare lines, causing more income taxes to be paid, which the Treasury Department would love. Perhaps his hesitation is due to pressure from the environmental community.

I’ve heard different stories that this oil would be more for exporting, or that a break/leak in the pipeline would be a catastrophe to the land. Common sense should prevail. With predictions of gas going over $5 per gallon, we need all the new oil that we can harvest ourselves. As such, I would think that most of the new oil would stay in the United States. In addition, we have had an existing pipeline for many years without any environmental calamity. Why would a new pipeline be any different?
