A proposed splash pad and community center will be part of discussions Monday at the bi-weekly meeting of the City Council, at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall, 714 Ridge Road.
First Ward Councilman Abdul Noman is asking again for a resolution that will designate the city-owned land on which the abandoned Friendship House sits for future use as a community center and outdoor water park. The city plans to tear down the derelict building with an eye toward making the five-acre site shovel ready for economic development
First ward residents Mohamed Albanna and George Halsey also have asked to speak about the property and a proposed Steel City Splash Committee.

• The Zoning Board of Appeals will review a variance request from Global Concept Charter School for an addition at 168 Roland Avenue, as well as multiple variance requests from Lackawanna Housing Development Corp. for properties that are part of a plan to build 48 single-family homes in the city’s 1st Ward.
