Standing on a busy corner near where two youngsters have been hit by cars in the past two years, State Sen. Tim Kennedy, D-Buffalo, called Wednesday for expansion of the state’s Complete Streets Law to make roadways safer for pedestrians and bicyclists.

“By reforming our state’s law, our legislation would make dangerous intersections like this one much safer for pedestrians and bicyclists,” Kennedy said at a press conference at Union Road and Maryvale Drive in Cheektowaga.

Kennedy said he also is pushing for creation of a dedicated line of funding for pedestrian and bicycling infrastructure in the state budget. He was joined by Cheektowaga Supervisor Mary Holtz, Justice Booth, executive director of the advocate group GObike Buffalo; and parents whose children have to cross Union Road for school.
