A car accident in the Town of Sherman left three young people injured after Mark Maio, 20, attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone while exceeding the speed limit on Route 430 today shortly after 2 a.m., Chautauqua County Sheriff’s officials said. Maio lost control of his car, which struck multiple trees.
Maio was also taken via ambulance to Hamot Medical Center in Erie. The two passengers in Maio’s car – Todd Clark, 19, and Kayla Clark, 18 – were also injured. Kayla, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, had to be extricated from the vehicle and taken by Starflight to Hamot. Todd, who was sitting in the backseat, was taken to WCA Hospital.
All three reside in Jamestown.
Maio faces charges of unsafe passing, speed not reasonable and prudent, and aggravated unlicensed operation. He could face additional charges pending the results of a toxicology report.
