Icy conditions combined with high winds cut the signal for WKBW-TV, Channel 7, to a portion of viewers Monday night and throughout this morning, reported Michael Nurse, station president and general manager.
“It started breaking up around 10 p.m.,” Nurse said, adding that service was restored shortly after noon today.
Subscribers of Dish Network and DIRECTV were affected by the blackout, Nurse said.
Nurse pointed to moisture in the transmission line located on top of the old HSBC Center as the source of the problem.
“We have an old system we are trying to replace,” he said. “The frustrating part is that we’ve been waiting for a year for approval.”
Complicating the approval process, according to Nurse, is the station’s proximity to Canada and the international regulations governing digital transmission.
