Hamburg Centrals School District, and the problems it has been having, are on the radar of the state education commissioner.
John B. King Jr. said Thursday during a meeting with The Buffalo News editorial board that he is aware of the situation in Hamburg, where a resident has petitioned him to remove two board members for an alleged conflict of interest. King said he could not comment on the specifics because the state Education Department is reviewing the appeal to remove the board members.
“Hamburg’s not alone,” he said. “The Hamburg situation may be unique, but there are other districts around the state where we have deep concerns about governance.”
He said the state has a very high bar for removing a board member or intervening in a decision made by a district.
