Hamburg Central School Board members Tuesday night awarded the contract for a new roof on the Middle School to Progressive Roofing.
The $1.75 million bid from the Buffalo company was the lowest of four bids received for the work. Director of Administrative Services Barbara Sporyz pointed out that the bid came in under the $2.1 million estimate for the project.
The work is being funded through the district’s $34.7 million capital project. Sporyz said that while the Middle School roof was not listed in the original plan, the proposition that voters approved three years ago stated that various roofs would be replaced. There were other repairs that were more pressing than the roof and were done first, she said.
Board Member Catherine Schrauth Forcucci voted against awarding the contract. She questioned whether it was within the scope of the capital project, and said she did not have enough time to go over documents related to the bid.
Sporyz said the replacement will start soon, and it is hoped the work will be finished this year.
