Erie County Democrats are expected to name Bill Clark, an attorney and committee member from Hamburg, as their candidate for county clerk against incumbent Republican Christopher L. Jacobs.
Jeremy J. Zellner, chairman of the Erie County Democratic Party, said Saturday that Clark is expected to be endorsed by the party’s executive committee on Wednesday.
“He and I have talked for a long time about him someday running, and he has now agreed to do this,” Zellner said.
Questions had surrounded the party’s ability to field any candidate this year against Jacobs, who boasts major advantages in incumbency, name recognition and finances. But Zellner said the party now expects a vigorous “Clark for Clerk” campaign from the former Marine and Canisius College graduate.
