Rep. Brian Higgins and Mayor Byron W. Brown are scheduled Tuesday to break ground on improvements to Ohio Street.

Ohio Street is seen as a key connector between the inner and outer harbors, and it is set for an $11.3 million redevelopment between Michigan Avenue and Route 5/Fuhrmann Boulevard.

The street is set to be transformed into a tree-lined thoroughfare with lighting, landscaping, walking and biking paths. The city contributed $1.2 million to the project, which is expected to be completed in summer 2015.
