The ninth annual Paddles Up Niagara will bring a flotilla of canoes and kayaks Saturday to the Niagara River, along Grand Island’s southeastern shore.

Activities kick off with a kayak poker run at 7 a.m. from East River Marsh around Strawberry Island. A Paddle Fair, with vendors and paddlesport information, begins at 8:30 a.m. A paddle sprint competition starts at 9:30. A Native American departure ceremony will be performed at 11:30.

Highlighting the event is a 4.8-mile, non-competitive fun paddle at noon from the Little Beaver Launch Site.

The program concludes with a 2:30 p.m. lunch fundraiser and a tour of the historic River Lea House, for which a $14 pre-paid donation is required. All the other activities are free. Normal state park entry fees apply.
