Grand Island

Grand Islanders will kick off the holiday season Saturday with the Light Up the Boulevard Electric Parade and Festival, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.

The festivities will begin at 5 p.m. with a “1k Rudolph Fun Run” beginning at 1970 Grand Island Boulevard. After the run, a parade with brightly-lit floats and dancers will travel down Grand Island Boulevard from Staley Road to Baseline Road. After the parade, Santa will arrive on the Town Commons for a tree lighting and Holiday Festival featuring caroling, live music and vendors. The festival will continue until 9 p.m.

• The Grand Island Town Board will meet for workshop meetings Monday at 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., and for its regular meeting Monday at 8 p.m. All meetings take place in Town Hall, 2255 Baseline Road.

• The Grand Island Central School District Board of Education will meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. for its regular meeting in the Middle School Little Theater, 1100 Ransom Road.

• The Grand Island Memorial Library’s adult book club will meet on Monday at 7 p.m. in the library, 1715 Bedell Road, to discuss “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak. The meeting is open to the public and refreshments will be served. For more information, call 773-7124.
