A Zumbathon will be held today to support Vanessa Haynie, a 17-year-old Grand Island Senior High School student diagnosed with Lupus.
Vanessa is on dialysis 10 hours a day because of a near-fatal blood infection. Funds raised at the benefit will help defray her medical costs, as well as the 30 medications she must take each day.
Zumba, a group aerobic workout with dance steps set to music, will be offered, but participation is not mandatory. There will also be refreshments as well as 50/50 and basket raffles. The event will be held at Payne Avenue Christian Church, 1451 Payne Avenue in North Tonawanda from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
