The nightly closures on the southbound South Grand Island Bridge have ended, the Thruway Authority said Friday.

While work on the bridge continues, the contractor will use the shoulder closures on the Niagara Thruway until construction on the movable barrier in the south crossover is finished. That work, which will be performed in the daytime, is expected to be completed in mid November.

The southbound bridge project was done at the cost of $14 million and is part of $170 million in capital spending on the Thruway Authority’s Buffalo division this year.
