Canoers and kayakers will take to the Niagara River off Grand Island July 26 for the Ninth Annual Paddles Up Niagara. Highlight will be a 4.8-mile non-competitive paddle at noon from the Little Beaver Launch Site in Beaver Island State Park.
Activities kick off with a poker run at 7 a.m. from East River Marsh around Strawberry Island. A Paddle Fair, with vendors and paddlesport information, begins at 8:30 a.m. A paddle sprint competition starts at 9:30.
The program concludes with a 2:30 p.m. lunch fundraiser and a tour of the historic River Lea House, for which a $14 pre-paid donation is required. All the other activities are free. Normal state park entry fees apply.
