The vandalizing of nearly a dozen Grand Island cars that were left unlocked by their owners in recent days prompted Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard to stress the need to lock car doors and refrain from leaving valuable items in vehicles left outside garages overnight.

So far the Grand Island vandalism has involved thefts of loose cash and change left in unlocked vehicles, many in the part of the island near Grand Island High School, the sheriff said Wednesday.

With an investigation underway, the sheriff has asked anyone with information about such incidents on Grand Island to contact Detective Brian O’Hara at 242-9612.
