The Grand Island Town Board on Monday night approved a five-year contract with town employees represented by AFSCME Local 1783-A.

Under the contract, the town and employees agreed to work together to choose future health care plans.

The pact also requires employees to contribute toward their premiums.

“We appreciate that town employees recognize the uncertainty of health care and are willing to work with the town in that regard,” Supervisor Mary Cook said.

The board also:

• Voted to approve a one-year agreement with Grand Island Fire Company to provide fire protection services for $1,081,538 – a 1.5 percent cost increase from 2013.

The agreement also includes a payment of $25,000 to be used for debt or future capital expenditures.

• Changed the designation of the town’s Conservation Commission to a Conservation Advisory Board, giving it the ability to make recommendations to the Town Board.
