The theft of about 80 feet of copper wire that left a Grand Island business temporarily without power last week remains under investigation by the Erie County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Timothy B. Howard confirmed today.

Officials with the Leisure Living company on Grand Island Boulevard reported to Niagara Grid last week that they had no power for their operations. A National Grid crew found power lines had been cut near the roof of the building after thieves broke into the building and pulled the wire through a wall, officials said.

Detectives are continuing an investigation of the theft.
