Daredevil Nik Wallenda and his family will spend the summer in Western New York.
The high-wire artist will perform a 60-minute show twice daily at Darien Lake starting in June, Wallenda and park officials announced Wednesday morning.
The show, called “Nik Wallenda: Beyond the Falls,” will run from June 23 through Sept. 1, except for Mondays, in the park’s 1,800-seat indoor Galaxy Theatre.
For 10 weeks, Wallenda and his family will stay in Western New York to perform.
“My family is beyond thrilled to be coming back to what I do consider my second home,” Wallenda said during a news conference at a Tim Horton’s on Main Street in Williamsville.
As part of the Wallendas’ time at the theme park, park-goers will get a chance to see the aerialists up close and personal through an “interactive tightrope training academy” three times daily.
Wallenda’s wife, Erendira, and mother, Delilah, will be among the show’s performers.
Wallenda walked across Niagara Falls in June 2012, a feat viewed internationally by 13 million people. He also walked across the Grand Canyon last year.
The Darien Lake shows will include a pyramid act, bicycle riding and pole climbing.
At their highest, the high-wire artists will be 55 feet above the ground, Wallenda said.
Admission to the high-wire show will be included in the price of a daily or season pass to the Genesee County amusement park. The ability to purchase upgraded seating will also be available, including the chance to meet Wallenda backstage.
The Wallendas’ residence at Darien Lake will also include unscheduled “pop-up” performances along the park’s midway, as well as a regular showing of a 30-minute film chronicling the history of the Wallenda family’s high flying feats.
Wallenda said he will also perform at this year’s Erie County Fair.
Wallenda said Darien Lake approached him about the venture. He remains open to establishing a more permanent presence in Niagara Falls, though talks so far have been unfruitful, he said.
“It takes time to get things done in Niagara Falls,” Wallenda said.
