OAKFIELD – Three Albion men were arrested after a vehicle chase early Friday and charged with burglarizing a barn on Lockport Road in Oakfield, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said. They also may be charged with a theft in a neighbor’s garage.
Evan J. Shaffer, 20, Scott R. Miller, 20, and Hayden K. Ettinger, 19, were charged with third-degree burglary and unlawful possession of marijuana after deputies chased down a car, driven by Shaffer, and captured the three suspects.
A Lockport Road resident called 911 at 2:32 a.m. after confronting two men inside the barn. The intruders fled, dropping a small coil of electrical wire and some copper tubing that had been removed from a building attached to the barn. The resident saw a red Pontiac Sunfire execute a U-turn in front of his house and speed off to the west.
A few minutes later, a deputy saw the Sunfire speeding east on Lockport Road and gave chase, finally stopping the car on Fisher Road.
Inside the car, property allegedly stolen from a car parked inside a garage near the barn was recovered, which may lead to more charges as the investigation continues. Shaffer also was charged with speeding, improper left turn, failing to signal and driving with his view distorted by broken glass.
The suspects were sent to Genesee County Jail to await a Nov. 4 Oakfield Town Court date, with bail set at $5,000 for Shaffer, $10,000 for Ettinger and $25,000 for Miller.
