BATAVIA – A state Department of Transportation grant of $1 million will go toward a new terminal at Genesee County Airport.
The $5.5 million terminal will replace an older, smaller structure that is too close to the runway, according to Federal Aviation Administration specifications.
About $17 million, most of it in FAA funds, has gone into airport improvements in the past decade. They include extending the runway to 5,500 feet and adding tie-down space and hangars. However, the terminal must be financed by the county, and the state grant is contingent on completing the project within five years.
