BATAVIA – The Genesee County Sheriff’s Department revamped E-911 system is nearly complete and will serve 95 percent of the county with responses to emergencies.
The $10.8 million makeover from analogue to digital communications will link several agencies with the dispatch center in the Park Road headquarters of the sheriff.
Harris Communications of Rochester, says the system will link 1,700 first responders with pagers or phones. Three towers – in the towns of Alabama, Bergen and Darien will double the number of transmitting sites.
Already the number of dropped calls has decreased to five or six per 1,000 calls, well within the industry standard.
