The body of a missing 26-year-old man was found this afternoon in a wooded area west of State Route 77 in Genesee County, one day after he went missing from a home in the Town of Darien.

Ryan C. Bergman was pronounced dead by Genesee County Coroner Kristine Flanagan. There was no indication of foul play, and the cause of death is still to be determined, according to a press release from state police.

Police said Bergman had left the house on foot “in clothing inadequate for the weather conditions,” but did not cite a reason. After receiving a missing person complaint at 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday, state troopers from Batavia fanned out to search the surrounding area, with assistance from Genesee County Sheriff’s deputies and a K-9 unit. Fire departments from the towns of Alexander, Alden and Darien joined the hunt during the night.

The effort resumed Wednesday morning with an unsuccessful aerial search by troopers. A ground search continued with all of the agencies and the body was found at about 2:30 p.m.
