National Grid crews early Thursday restored electrical power to the Peace Bridge, which struggled Wednesday with the poblem, blamed on a power line beneath Busti Avenue.
The trouble began about 2 a.m. Wednesday, when a backup generator kicked in to cope with the outage. The generator, meanwhile, failed for several hours Wednesday afternoon, forcing staffers at bridge tollbooths to use laptop computers. Though a backup generator was rushed to the bridge, the original generator returned to life and kept electruicity flowing until National Grid completed repairs.
Peace Bridge Authority officials said the power problem is the first experienced by the international span since a fall storm eight years ago. The latest episode, they added, had little impact on traffic flow.
