Firefighters from several companies battled a blaze Sunday afternoon at a large, 2 1/2-story Black Rock building containing four apartments, but only one of the apartments was occupied.
Around 2:30 p.m., a second-floor apartment at 174 Austin Street, along Tonawanda Street, caught fire. The fire was contained and under control within an hour.
No one was home when the fire started, and no injuries were reported. The apartment that caught fire was the only one of the four that was currently occupied, Division Chief John Mogavero said.
Damage was estimated at $65,000. The cause of the fire was unknown, Mogavero said.
Angela Orr, a 27-year-old mother of two, was identified as the occupant of the apartment.
