SALAMANCA – Salamanca Fire Department officials said they expected a raging fire at the vacant and abandoned train depot on Atlantic Street to keep their crews and crews from assisting fire departments busy well into today’s early morning hours.
Tuesday evening, fire fighters could not yet enter the burning structure because of the intensity of the fire. The fire reportedly began sometime before 3 p.m. Tuesday and flames shot high into the sky in Salamanca’s north end.
Officials said the building complex had been in disrepair for some time.
The cause of the fire is expected to be determined sometime today.
As of mid-evening Tuesday, no injuries had been reported injured at the fire scene.
