If ever there was a winter designed to take full advantage of the season’s abundance of outdoor activities, this would appear to be it.
From activities that range from sledding, tobogganing and snowboarding, Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz is previewing them today as he announces the Winterfest 2014 during a news conference at the Chestnut Ridge Park casino in Orchard Park. The Winterfest will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Chestnut Ridge.
The past few winter seasons, which have been milder than usual and almost bereft of snow, almost made a mockery of the event, as sponsors were forced to either postpone or cancel some snow dependent activities. However, it does not appear that will be a problem this year.
The county’s roster of planned Winterfest activities will include snow sculpting, as well as curling, hayrides, magic shows, marshmallow roasting and wood branding, according to organizers.
All of the activities are free of charge, except for the hayrides, which will cost $3 per person.
