A suspicious package left by the gate at the Erie County Public Safety Campus Thursday sparked an investigation by the Erie County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad.
A security patrol noticed a metal box sitting on a concrete barricade by the gate at the Public Safety Building at about 7:30 p.m. He notified Buffalo police, who contacted the Sheriff’s Bomb Squad to investigate. The area around the building was blocked off by Sheriff’s deputies and Buffalo police, while the building was locked down.
Upon arrival, the bomb technicians conducted diagnostics on the package, while Buffalo police attempted to determine who might have left the package. After efforts to determine why the package was left there had failed, the bomb squad remotely opened it with an energetic tool. The contents of the package were determined to be non–explosive.
The package and the items inside were collected as evidence, and the investigation is continuing.
