A North Tonawanda man accused of stealing $215,121 from his elderly aunt’s bank account over a six-year period while she was living in a nursing home in Erie County pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree grand larceny.
Donald E. Gubbins, 64, of Webster Street, admitted that he took the money between Jan. 1, 2008 and Jan. 1, 2014 by abusing a power of attorney that his 87-year-old aunt had granted him, according to District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III.
Gubbins claimed that he used most of the embezzled money to keep his business out of debt, Sedita said.
Gubbins, who has no prior criminal record, faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced Oct. 1 by State Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski. He was released on his own recognizance.
