Dr. Dianne R. Vertes, Erie County’s chief medical examiner, is expected to retire today, county officials said.

Dr. Tara Mahar will act as interim chief medical examiner while a search for a permanent replacement is conducted, according to Peter Anderson, spokesman for County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz.

Vertes has served in the medical examiner’s office for a decade.

“We thank Dr. Vertes for her 10 years of service to Erie County and wish her well in retirement,” Anderson said.
